Fell for one today. The Paperless Post Invitation scam. In my defense, it originally came from mom of my son's friend claiming to be a party invite. I originally never opened it. But she happened to text my wife this evening out of the blue inviting my son to something so I figured that is what the invitation was about. What horrible luck/timing!

Here are the facts:

-I originally tried to access on my phone. It said I needed to log in with Gmail. However, I ended up inputting the wrong password twice.

- I tried on my computer and this time it redirected me automatically when clicking on the invitation (no manually entering Google credentials).

- It automatically downloaded screenconnect.clientsetup. It had a page with my name telling me to download some app to help with calendar sync.

- In response, I shut off wifi (within 30 seconds). I turned on 2 factor authentication. I have checked Google in the last hour since this happened and have seen no alternate log ins. I deleted the file that was downloaded.

Questions:

  1. Am I safe from the screen connect file? It downloaded automatically but I never opened the file.

  2. Do I have to change password since I entered the wrong when prompted?
