If he had been taken out and those minutes were instead used for the plot of Blue trying to fit in with the tribe (not fitting in), the rainforest, so on, so forth of the movie. How well would it have been received? Then they could’ve, in a fictional third film, made Nigel is the pure main villain (I’m aware he was a bigger villain in Rio 1, but the main antagonist of that movie was Marcel, with his henchman Armando and Tipa).
