I was diagnosed about 5 weeks ago and was using an existing BGM, Reli-On (bought at Walmart). I tried a CGM for about 2-3 weeks but the readings from the reli-on were always way off so I went back to using my BGM. I got sick of paying out of pocket for the strips/lancets because my insurance did not cover reli-on or one-touch. They cover under Freestyle Lite, so I ordered this and picked up my script yesterday. Because of my readings with the previous BGM I was placed on insulin and have been upping my dosage, most recently to 28u.

I starting using the Freestyle Lite last night after dinner. It had been a long day, and so I had a "cheat" meal and ate some chinese food which absolutely hit my cravings. I focused mostly on protein and had a small amount of the noodles/other carbs but definitely still overindulged. I took a 10 minute walk after and stayed active when I got home with just some general housework for an hour. 2 hours post meal I was 120 which is just at the top of the limit but based on the food I ate, I was pleased. I did a Fairlife chocolate protein shake as my late night snack after my insulin last night. Up until now, my fasting has hovered from 98-110 with the insulin no matter what I eat.

This morning my fasting came in at...81??? I checked my sugars against my old BGM and it said 105 which is what I was normally coming in at. Since this morning I've been comparing each post meals. All my 2 hours post meals are coming in under 100 whereas the Reli-On is always over 100.

Has anyone had unreliable readings with Reli-On and more accurate with Freestyle Lite? I'm happy with my numbers but I'm now wondering if I need as much insulin as I am taking with these numbers...I don't have a super supportive MFM either as he jumped to insulin immediately based on my numbers following my GTT.
