I’ve been experiencing a lot of shedding and thinning over the last few months due to androgenic alopecia from PCOS, and also a suspected TE episode on top of that from stress and poor mental health. I decided to do som research and completely change my hair routine and I have been seen A LOT of improvement. So here’s my routine that hopefully others on here can follow!
So I wash my about hair 2x a week, and each wash I use the loreal hydra pure shampoo first, as I have very oily hair and dry ends. Then for the second shampoo, I alternate between the loreal growth booster and nizoral shampoos, so basically I use each once a week. The growth booster is great as it contains aminexil, and nizoral is amazing not just because it’s a DHT blocker but also because it treats dandruff (which I have) and overall creates a healthier and cleaner environment for the hair. On the days I use the nizoral, I use a hair mask as it can be quite drying for my ends. I’d say any hair mask that works for your hair is fine, it doesn’t really matter, but I use the loreal dream lengths one. On the days I use the growth booster, I use a bond repair conditioner to prevent breakage and therefore thinner and shorter hair.
When I get out of the shower, I use a cotton T-shirt to dry and wrap up my hair, but this can also be substituted for a microfiber towel. Then, I use a leave in conditioner spray on my damp hair. Using a lightweight spray as apposed to a cream if you have long straight hair that tends be flat is very important as a cream in thin hair will just weigh it down and make it feel flatter and thinner. Then I use a heat protectant spray and lastly a little bit of the loreal extraordinary hair oil on the mids and ends before blowdrying. It’s important to blowdry over air drying as your hair is a lot weaker when it’s wet, so it is subjected to more opportunities for breakage when you air dry, as well as worsening dandruff.
I’m also on a lot of supplements and spironolactone, but not long enough for any of those to have made a difference in my hair yet. I’ve only been doing this routine for about 3 weeks, and my shedding has already reduced by at least 2 thirds. However, none of these products necessarily promote hair growth, just hair shedding.
I hope this is helpful!
