Has anyone had inguinal hernia surgery
I had a CT scan performed by my gastroenterologist’s office. They said everything was fine, but the report said I had an inguinal hernia. When I asked about it, they said I don’t need to do anything until it bothers me.
I made an appointment with my PCP and they recommended that I get surgery (without doing an examination).
I made an appointment with a surgeon that specializes in laparoscopic surgery. They did a thorough examination and yanked on everything. They said “yep, you have an inguinal hernia “
When I asked what their recommendation was, they said they don’t make recommendations. They provided lots of statistics.
My biggest fear of not getting surgery is having my intestine get strangulated and require emergency surgery.
My fear of getting surgery is having permanent pain (approximately 20% chance) or having complications (e.g. infection, etc)
For those who had an inguinal hernia, what was your experience?
My hernia was described as a small fat containing hernia.
