I have no idea what the diagonal arrows or coffee cup versions of history are trying to show. Some images are there, some aren't, ordering appears to be arbitrary.
All I'm looking for is the simplest possible conceptualization of history: every single image that went into or out of the application, in exactly the order that they did so. Which the clock hands button appears to do, but several versions ago it was changed to do so by wasting 80% of its space on identical text labels rather than thumbnails.
I'm having a very difficult time imagining what problem this change was intended to solve. (Or what imagining of nonlinear time the other two modes are, or why these buttons only have cryptic hieroglyphs rather than text names.)
Is there some way to reverse this? To go back to being able to view all the time that happened, in the order that it happened, without wasting 80% of the screen real estate of that column on saying "Generated image..." over and over again?
