Who still stands for the "pledge of allegiance"?

I stopped standing for the pledge of allegiance back in high school in the 90s. I remember a few years before becoming aware of how weird and cringe it was.

One day, in 10th grade, I decided not to do it. Because I had enough of pretending like I cared and just how creepy it was to me. Of course, I was the only one to do it. My teacher took me out of the classroom to talk to me about how disrespectful it was.

T- "Why won't you stand!? I fought for this country, and you should respect it!" He said frothing at the mouth. Mind you, he was a psychology teacher too.

Me-"I think it would be even more disrespectful to PRETEND like I care." I said calmly, with zero fxcks given.

He dropped it when he couldn't intimidate me.

To this day, I still don't stand. I love what the intentions of our nation tried to be. But, simply look at our entire history, and we're a gross failure at best. And a hypocritical disgusting joke at worst.

The trail of tears, slavery, no rights for anyone not a white male, ww2 mustard gas experiments on Japanese, African and Puerto Rican soldiers, purposefully setting off nukes to study how the radiation effected the nearby civilian population, ad naseum..

The last baseball game I went to I was the only one who didn't stand, as per usual. I've always wondered how many people do it because of peer pressure or just simply can't stand by their convictions around so many people?

So why do you or don't you stand?
