Need some reassurance on NYU
Hey guys! Recent victim of the 2026 transfer cycle but had some victories with UVA NYU and vandy so far and rejected from Cornell, columbia, and Barnard (my dream). I still have a few decisions left, but I’m honestly really happy with the options I do have.
That said, I’ve been seeing a lot of negativity about nyu and transfer students at NYU and it’s starting to get to me a bit.
For context, I feel like NYU fits me really well. I already have close friends there, and after spending time at a traditional college-town school, I’ve realized I’m much more of a city person. I feel like I could really be myself in New York - more freedom, more individuality, and just a better overall environment for me. I also keep hearing that NYU students tend to be happier than students at some of the more intense NYC schools.. ahem barnumbia(maybe I’m coping a little lol).
At the same time, I’m pre-law, so I’m trying to think long-term. UVA has a really strong reputation for law and pre-law placement, and Vanderbilt is obviously super prestigious as well - arguably more traditionally “elite” than NYU? I’m not totally sure.
Cost isn’t really a factor since all three are about the same for me, so I’m mostly trying to figure out where I’ll have the best combination of opportunity, experience, and overall fit.
I feel really drawn to NYU, but I don’t want to make a decision based purely on emotion if it could hurt me later - especially with law school in mind.
Would really appreciate any insight because I’m feeling pretty stuck right now.
