Dog-Pound-Lily's Field Trip

Hey there! I’m Lily, an eight-month-old pup currently living at the SPCA Dog Pound in sunny Wahiawa Hawaii. My room is a dog cage with a concrete floor. The other day, my keeper said an old fella named Jim from Ohio was coming to take me on a field trip. Apparently, he’s on a mission to visit all 50 state fairs/ exhibitions and he was checking our island paradise off his list.

So, they slapped a collar on me and stuck this sign on my back saying I was adoptable—like I’m a hot new toy or something! They provided Jim with a backpack full of treats, toys, and—wait for it—poop bags! I hopped into the car, settled in the backseat, and off we went to the North Shore of Oahu.

When we parked, I leaped out like a furry superhero. The sand was everywhere! I was a little scared of those big, splashy waves, but running around in the sand was the best! People kept saying I was cute (which I totally am) and giving me cuddles and pets. One nice lady even gave me treats—score! I played with the toys in Jim’s bag, but I was always on the lookout for buried treasure. Then, I spotted a yellow plastic thingy sticking out of the sand. It turned out to be a little shovel! Just what I needed for my digging adventures! I had fun playing with Jim and reminded him that little puppies like me have sharp teeth and we like to play-bite and chew things.

Now, here’s the best part: we next went to a place with two girls in a window who totally flipped over me. They brought me a bowl of water and played with me while Jim ordered food. Naturally, I had to beg for a bite of his sandwich. He gave me a taste of his tuna salad, and let me tell you, it was delicious! I wanted more and started pawing at his plate like a pro. Oops! I knocked it to the ground, and potato chips went flying everywhere. You better believe I cleaned up that mess!

After lunch, we hit another beach, and I had a blast dipping my toes in the water (while avoiding those sneaky waves). The sun was shining, the water was warm, and I was living my best life outside the dog pound.

Eventually, after a long day of fun, I curled up in the backseat for the ride back to the pound and a nap. I was pooped! But alas, all good things come to an end. Jim had to take me back to my cage, dreaming of my next adventure. But hey, I had an epic day at the beach with my new buddy Jim!
