Does Searle's Biological Naturalism imply we can't be in a digital simulation?
If Searle is correct and biology is needed for concoiusness, does that imply that our reality can't be a digital simulation?
In principle you could imagine a reality like ours where all the physical laws are simulated by computers, populated by digital people building digital computers and arguing about if those digital computers could be concious.
In this world a digital Searle argues that the digital computers can't be concious, not realizing that he is also a digital entity in a computer existing in a higher world.
In the future with more advanced computers we could maybe even one day build a digital Searle zombie which feels even wierder, and the digital Searle zombie would start unknowingly argue that he can't be concious while "believing" he is concious.
