I am going to expand my DIY skillset to include some basic framing, like for built-in shelves in garages and closets. I am conversant in hand tools and power tools, plus basic electrical work (no plumbing--I know my limits).

It might even be called something else. Whenever I've been around projects that required a 2x4 structure to support it (like a structure in the torms of a stage to hold 20-30 chorus members in high school), a more experienced adult was sent to do the actual work and nothing was explained to me.

I've seen videos that kind of explain how it works, but they usually just say it like it's the most obvious thing in the world, which is not how to learn anything. And those videos are not basic structure videos, so it's not their fault.

I need to understand the basics to be able to apply that to projects. Some of what I have in mind is shelving that will hold heavy, old-school speakers and amps. I want to make custom shelves in closets that aren't prefab chipboard.

Hopefully this makes sense, because I don't know what I don't know--ya know?
