I'm facing a major surgery next month, which could result in being out of work for an extended period of time. I won't know the full extent of my recovery until the surgery happens. Best case scenario, I'm out for 1-2 weeks. Worst case, could be months.
I'm planning to use pto for my surgery date and best case recovery period. I do not want to use std, ltd, fmla, etc. I just dont want the hassle.
But... if worst case scenario happens, and I have to apply for fmla, std, or ltd, what happens to my benefits? I have life insurance and pet insurance through my company. Do those policies lapse if I take a leave of absence?
