was called by a recruiter for a residency posting
for OR.
background: OR practicum & Aug 2025 grad, did not nclex/license until November.
The recruiter was 5 minutes late to call me, was expecting the usual questions but was asked about the gap in my resume and why I haven’t found a job??? like lol im sure they know what the market is rn so I was surprised by that. I explain my situation <insert background> they proceed to ask… “well, what are you looking for?” Uhhh A job? Lol 😭 I wanted to apply to OR elsewhere from medsurg to try especially since I do have relevant experience (I didn’t say that but in my head) I ofc answer what im looking for and they reply back with “well it looks like it’s not going to be a good fit cause other applicants are competitive and moving into the interview process” they begin to go off topic and suggest I’d apply to medsurg positions - which I did but they still have the postings up and yet already FILLED all those spots 😂 ( I don’t mind working medsurg) im confused and appalled by that response so I pushback a little bit and ask for clarity on why I don’t qualify even though I have the relevant experience and it’s because it’s been “so long”since that happened I don’t fall into that criteria … so the recent applicants interviewing now just completed their practicums which makes sense ofc. Also they were asking me if I wanted to try for another open spot for tele and I said I don’t have experience in it (I’m willing to try) but they reply with “oh goodness okay” like was that not unprofessional? but it’s just crazy how fast I was shut down. I’m more so disappointed in the fact that this recruiter wasted my time to begin with lol not sure why I was even given the chance to set up a time to call when it would last 5 min only for them to kind of shade me?. I’m not taking this personally either, it’s off putting how this interaction went. Would have been nice to be given more of a chance, I don’t think this gap defines me but if that’s how they see it then whatever lol I know there’s something better for me out there and I have a lot to offer but yeah that kind of made me feel small lol, thanks for reading!
after 5 months of being licensed lol i've landed an interview next week for an OR residency 😄 i did my senior practicum in the OR last summer so it's been a while. Any nurses can give their input on what i may be asked/anticipate? is it no different from a regular interview? just wondering since OR is such a different world from bedside. anything helps! thank you in advance 😄
hello! is there anyone that tweaks their resume to the new grad job summary/responsibilities? i'm not sure what to do, would be happy if someone can give me tips if this helps getting my application through, i can send you a sample of my resume! ( WA State - at this time, looking at Multicare and CHI new grad postings, i've applied almost everywhere in state)
