Hi GMRS,
I'm looking for a solution for camping walkie talkies -In Canada.
I am currently using some kids toys walkie talkies from Amazon, NXGKET brand I think. They are frs/gmrs 2w but are essentially useless as they don't have external antenna, and only provide like 200meter range in the forest.
I have found an AM/FM Portable CB which has 4W and looks like it would be good for convoying, especially with a rooftop antenna. This does not look like the greatest option for wooded areas.
I know very little about GMRS and really don't even know where to start so that's mainly what I'm seeking help on.
From what I've found, a high power GMRS is not legal in Canada but would essentially be what I'm looking for if it was.
I wish to be able to convoy with a few friends to campsites, and have a radio that when other people show up later in the day, they can find us or communicate with us for instructions on where we actually ended up camping. (We usually go for FCFS so we don't always end up where we planned)
What do you recommend for convoying/camping/hiking?
Any advice is welcomed, even if it's "go Google this", Im so lost trying to figure out radio rules, please help, and I'm sorry if this breaks any sub rules.
*Edit: Brand updated to "NXGKET" from "NXT"
