This wee fella is made from Amazaque wood. It was horrible to carve with my knives. Very hard. Apparently it has a fairly high silica content which dulls the blade quickly too. I briefly tried bulk removal with a dremel, and that was worse! Anyway, this wood has the most beautiful chatoyance (moving light captured in the grain), and he looks very happy, so I'm pleased I persevered. Hope you can see the effect on this video. Finished with my beeswax/ jojoba oil butter.
