Pregnant Paralympian (Paris ‘24 Swimming) starting off with a handcycle with the hopes of completing an iron man in 2029

Brand new to the para cycling world. I used to compete in Olympic distance triathlons in high school and I punched my ticket to compete at nationals in 2016. I also dreamed of completing an Iron Man. However during the summer leading into nationals I subluxed my thumb finishing in a 50 butterfly. I was in a hard brace and therefore I wasn’t able to bike, then shortly after I broke my back. I thought I’d never do a triathlon again. I’ve met a lot of people in the paratriathlon world and am ready to shoot for my goal again.

Some para cycling friend have also helped me order an indoor trainer, and I look forward to having the option to workout at home again, especially since I’ll be spending much of my fall and winter this year at home with a newborn.

I honestly know nothing about having a Handcycle, so I’m all ears. There’s glass on the walk/bike side walks near my house and I don’t want to pop the tires right away and I’m scared to ride on the roads here because of the drivers so I’m thinking of training on public tracks for now.
