Need advice
Hey guys
I’m 22 and currently stuck in that weird "doing what I’m told" phase. I’m 2.5 years into a degree I’m only doing because of family pressure, and I work a full-time job making $18/hr. I’ve never cared about being "rich" or had a dream job, but I’ve always known I want to work for myself.
I’m deep in the car scene project cars, Sunday meets, the whole thing. I’ve realized there is a gap in my local market for starlight headliners. Right now, the only shops doing them around here charge $1k+ minimum, and you have to leave your car at their shop for 3 or 4 days.
I want to do a mobile service. I’d come to you, knock it out in 8-10 hours, and get your car back to you the same day. Since I’d be mobile with zero overhead, I can definitely beat the local shop prices while still making way more than I do at my $18/hr job.
I’ve already done my own car. I found the process pretty easy, and it looks clean. I’m ready to start taking clients, but I have a few
questions
The "Discount" Trap: Since I’m just starting, should I do a few cars for the cost of materials just to get a portfolio? Or does that make me look like I don’t know what I’m doing?
Pricing: Should I lead with "I’m cheaper than the shops," or should I focus more on the convenience of me coming to you
I’ve already made a couple social media accounts, and have ordered some business cards and plan to put them on windshields at some car meets, what are some other cheap ways I can spread the word?
Any general advice
or words of wisdom that any of you might have, are also greatly appreciated, as well as shedding any light on some issues I’m not thinking of
