Moving with a cat
i’ve had my cat for ten years now, he’s around 13, not super sure on age because he was found in a parking lot as a baby. he’s a orange tabby and a big fella, not fat, just giant. i’m in a situation where i have to move him into my new apartment, but i’m scared about how it’s going to work out.
i’m going into my second year of uni 3 hours from home and have my own apartment now, and my mom has expressed she no longer wants the cat at our family home. due to her work and lifestyle, and me no longer being around, she thinks it’s best he comes with me to the city or goes to another home (i would die). this was a shock to me, but i understand and would kinda like to bring him so im not lonely.
the issue is my apartment is a basement apartment and he is semi outdoor. it’s a 3 bedroom with a open concept living room/kitchen, so a decent amount of room for him to roam. where he’s used to a regular sized home and being allowed outside, i’m worried he won’t take the change well, especially where he’s getting old. i can’t let him outside where we live due to traffic, and walks are not an option because he’s stubborn.
how can i make this easier for him? what do i do about the no more outdoor aspect? is it best i rehome him to make sure he’s happiest?
