I’m in the middle of my second ever Chronic migraine flare. I (35M) have been an episodic migraine sufferer since I was 14 - averaging anywhere from 1 migraine per month to 1 per year.
First chronic migraine flare was almost exactly a year ago: 10’ish migraines in 10 days. Absolutely soul destroying. Interestingly, the chronic migraines are way different in presentation to episodic ones
Migraines during a chronic flare: always start with classic aura, typically last 2-3 hours, with a pain score between 1-4/10, and usually no nausea.
Migraines during an episode: always start with classic aura, typically last 8-10 hours, pain sits at a 8/10 with lots of tears and hyperventilating, and plenty of vomiting
My triggers are primarily caffeine (which I haven’t consumed since my first chronic migraine spell), post-stress, and/or poor sleep/fatigue
I take Ajovy on a 24 days cycle. I have scripts for various triptan meds, but rarely take them as they don’t tend to abort anything anyway. I’ve had a private script for Nurtec in the past, but it did nothing as an abortive, and is way too expensive for me to take prophylactically
Just wondering if my story sounds similar to any of you, and if you have any advice on what helped?
