Steering Wheel Spacer, I borked it.
TLDR: the spacer is stuck on, I think I need it off to attempt to fix what I did. Any ideas on getting it off?
Ok first off my bad, I shouldn’t have thought I could follow YouTube videos where people know far more than I do and they don’t mention the don’t do this stuff and how to actually not do it.
I bought the 949 steering wheel spacer, I followed the only two videos I’ve seen on YouTube to install a spacer.
Mistake #1 I did not lock the wheel out before starting and when I got to the point that I loosen the nut holding the wheel to the column, the wheel shifted left and locked out. I just kept going noting what position it was in and I’d just put the wheel on that way when it came time. Probably shouldn’t have.
Mistake #2 I bumped the clock spring dials when I took the wheel off. Slightly left so I just moved it slightly right and said that should be good. Probably shouldn’t have done that.
Mistake #3? I installed the spacer and in actuality the wiring box is crooked right when I did so, so the spacer lines up with that and is off center to the right. Probably shouldn’t have done that.
Mistake #4 I slapped it all together, nut on the spacer, Allen bolts in spacer plate, wiring harness extender, plugged everything in, airbag back on. Took it around the block, wheel was cocked right. Car lit up like a Christmas tree (see photo) every warning under the sun. Came back everything back apart, wheel reset to straight, around the block, still warning lights bonanza.
And this is where I’m at. I can’t get the spacer back off, it’s like on there on there. Any suggestions for getting it off? I emailed 949 but I guess I’m impatient and open to ridicule and suggestions. Thanks.
