I’ve been playing analogue synths for about 30 years. My favourites include the ARP Odyssey and Korg MS20.
I don’t go down the modular/eurorack route, i prefer working within the limitations of any given synth’s specs. Semi-modular is about as far as I go. The Moog Grandmother being a good example of the kind of thing I like.
But I never had the money for an EMS Synthi. I recently came into a bit of extra cash, so bought myself a Syntrx II - the nearest affordable alternative.
Wow, I really love this thing. It’s exactly what I want from a synth and the patch matrix gives me more scope than ever before. I spent the first week just fiddling around with it as a standalone unit. Today I connected the Keystep. At some point I will integrate it with the rest of my studio, but I’m still just enjoying it on its own atm.
As someone who grew up in the 1970s watching Dr Who, I keep landing on those weird sounds that the Radiophonic Workshop coaxed out of their EMS gear. Also early Cabaret Voltaire ‘Attic Tapes’ vibes. I’m in synth heaven lol
Any other fans of the Syntrx here?
