I picked up a Vixen R130Sf a few days ago off of marketplace and I finally was able to test it out. I'm pretty amazed with the overall quality of the telescope! I've picked up a few other telescopes over the years and everything seems to be pretty standard. I've always considered the three big names like Celestron, Meade, and Orion. I've never heard of the brand Vixen until very recently on a YouTube video.
Over the years I have picked up a couple 90mm Maks (one Meade and the other a Celestron). I've found a couple of reflectors as well. One is a 8in Bushnell and the other is a Meade 4500. I've also found some nice reflectors like a Celestron 102mm and an orion 90mm. They all have their pros and cons and I can't see myself parting with any of them. My favorite so far is my latest purchase.
The vixen R103Sf was purchased for under $100. Besides the great optics, the telescope has some pretty nice details. First the spider has very thin metal supports that are almost invisible. The fasteners for the spider to the optical tube are bigger than any others I have seen on a telescope. The rear of the telescope has a thin black metal plate covering the back of the primary mirror and the collimation screws. The optical tube itself feels substantially stronger than any other reflector I've had. Even the cap sits securely and doesn't fall off. The focuser is pretty standard though with plastic knobs similar to all my other telescopes but this focuser doesn't seem to have any play.
I'm pretty happy with my latest purchase and I'm looking forward to observing with it.
Clear skies!
