The City of Gu-Li (Remotus Paradiso)
This is a relatively new project I’m working on, so I haven’t fleshed out everything yet. If you have any questions about the city, please ask! :D
SECTIONS:
The Head: Mostly graffiti and energy distributor though the spinal column
The Torso: Primary transport route through the oesophagus. The heart pumps blood across the city, which powers electrical generation. The spine brings electricity to the rest of the body, while also acting as a support for the west wing. Main business district and economic hub. Links the wings together. Very densely populated.
The Legs: Energy and blood recycle plant (in green). Mechs carry supplies from barges on the sea to the floating port built around the feet.
The Arms: Energy storage and manufacturing plants.
East Wing (right): Metro branching from where it links with the torso (some yellow dots). Small suburb-like neighbourhoods along them. Micro communities like the sky-stack tower and fourth-nation estate. Many lower class like in the hanging villages below.
West Wing: Mostly under construction by mechs, who are built on the western-most point. Structural support is incomplete. A few communities, and sparsely populated. Gang wars are somewhat common.
CONTEXT:
In the earliest ages of mankind, people from all over told stories of the gods. The giant beasts of old, tall as a mountain, stronger than the suns, shaking the earth as they soar between the stars. When they fight, their swords and shields send shockwaves across the globe, carving expansive lakes as they crash into the ground. Most of the giants have left their way of fighting since the Pliocene, or hand left earth completely. But the remnants of this violent past can still be found.
As one of the lower immortal beings, though they can’t be killed, they can still be incapacitated. Only a few of these floating ”corpses” remain, as most wake up from their coma after a few hundred thousand years.
But this one, still had a few more to go. After its discovery, it didn’t take long for people to start colonising it. They collected its blood, still pumping through its decayed body, using it to power technology the world had never seen before. While the rest of the world had just passed antiquity, the city built 6-legged mechs, magical weapons, and a mix of industrial and biologically grown infrastructure. And through its southern port, they shipped it out to those they could trust in return for more materials.
No one was allowed in or out, lest people steal their precious blood and figure out how to make these things themselves. It was named by those on the outside as “Remotus Paridiso”, the isolated paradise.
The giant could feel everything that was happening to it. It didn't have the strength to fight it for eons, but every day it grew stronger. The wings trembled ever so slightly, causing chaos. Even after they fixed the wings with iron supports, the quakes grew larger every hundred or so years. And it would only be a matter of time before it wakes up.
