Hi moms, I wanted to see if anyone here has had experience fortifying breast milk with Nutricia Fortini for weight gain.
My son has been exclusively fed pumped breast milk because it’s what his stomach tolerates best. We’ve worked really hard to avoid formula due to gas/tummy issues, but despite some improvement, his weight gain still hasn’t been where his pediatrician wants it to be.
His pediatrician recently started having us fortify 3 bottles a day with 2 oz of Fortini (30 cal/oz). It’s helping his weight gain, which I’m grateful for, but ever since starting it his stomach seems miserable.

He’s now having:
-Frequent loose stools
-Pooping almost every time he passes gas
-Orangish-brown stool with a strong vinegary smell
-A terrible diaper rash from all the poop

Before this, his stools were much more normal for a breastfed baby and his tummy seemed calmer overall.
Has anyone else had a baby react this way when adding Fortini or another high-calorie fortifier to breast milk? Did their stomach eventually adjust, or did you have to try something different?
I’d really appreciate hearing anyone’s experience because it’s hard balancing the need for weight gain with wanting his tummy to be comfortable too.

Hi everyone, I’m hoping to hear from other parents who have used Nutricia Fortini for weight gain/fortification.
My son has struggled with weight gain since birth. He is primarily fed pumped breast milk and donor milk because regular formula seemed to make his gas and stomach issues much worse. His pediatrician recently had us start fortifying 3 bottles a day with 2 oz of Fortini (30 cal/oz), and while it does seem to be helping his weight gain, his stomach has been really struggling with it.

Since starting it, he’s been having:
-Constant loose stools
-Pooping almost every time he passes gas
-Orangish/brown stools with a very vinegary smell
-A pretty bad diaper rash from the frequent stools

I know formula can change stool patterns, but this seems pretty intense compared to what he was like before.
Did anyone else’s baby react this way to Fortini specifically? Did it improve after an adjustment period, or did you end up switching to something else? Also, if your baby got a rash from it, what helped?
I’m obviously going to continue working with his pediatrician, but I’d really love to hear real-life experiences from other parents who have used it. Thank you!
