I recently acquired a Lee Enfield number 4 mark 1 from a friend who didn't want his anymore but it was in rough shape and needed restoring. During the restoration process I noticed that the rifle was missing a butt plate so I ordered one from eBay generally speaking they all look the same style just different types of metal. When I went to go put the butt plate on as the final touch for cleaning up the rifle I found that there is a large gap between the top of the butt plate and where the cut out in the stock is. I have not seen this before with this type of rifle and can't seem to find anything online that would indicate if this is a defect or what type of butt plate it's supposed to go here. Any input or help identifying what the issue is would be appreciated.
