Best way to control weeds under a young hedge?
Hello there, I’m having a hard time every couple of weeks because I have to pull all the weeds under the new hedge by hand. I was told that it will take 4–5 years for the hedge to mature enough for the shade it casts to eventually kill the weeds.
As you can see, the hedge branches out very low to the ground and the branches are quite thin, so I was wondering if anyone has suggestions for a quicker way to deal with the weeds. I’ve got a weed whacker, but one mistake could kill the plants, and I don’t want to risk it. Is there a tool I am not thinking about?
Related question: maybe the solution is to clean everything by hand one last time and then lay down a long strip of landscaping fabric with a hole for each plant, so nothing can grow underneath?
