This card art has bugged me since it was spoiled, and I've not seen anyone else mention it so I'm going to. What is going on with the background? Someone pointed out that it looks like it is supposed to be a Mayan pyramid, but it's shown exactly how an AI would generate the 'scene'.

There is simply no conceivable reason that the sky should not be sunny, as there are [many other cards in the LCI set with sunny skies.](https://scryfall.com/sets/lci) This isn't some fantasy world, it's Mexico. Hell, even [[chimil, the inner sun]] has legible clouds all over the background and that sun easily could have just been a dot.

And as it turns out there is other art by this artist that is also controversial: https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/announcements/statement-on-wayfarers-bauble

https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/3544357/is-the-new-cover-ai includes a discussion where Asmodee simply says "No" with no further clarification or responses. And WotC had the exact same response, which they then backtracked: https://www.pcgamer.com/wizards-of-the-coast-reverses-course-admits-to-using-ai-in-promotional-image-well-we-made-a-mistake-earlier/ so I'm not inclined to trust a single word corporate account answer on this.

It even led to some fallout with artists: https://www.reddit.com/r/mtg/comments/191dqra/artist_quits_working_for_wotc_over_their_use_and/

Opinions? Am I completely off the rails (pun intended)?
