I don't believe knights are not just pure chivalrous people and they never were just that. Character having cool piece of armor and a "Code" doesn't mean he cannot do something out of his league or that violates his world view. We are humans after all.

Burning down orphanages? Killing the innocent by burning the hand mark on their head, melting their brain in the process? Getting paid for dirty job by wealthy person only to pin his head into a stake after? Helping out the kingdom as a mercenary only to stab them into the back because the other ruler gave bigger reward, which you gonna kill anyway?
