Varnish handrails - bottom parts too?
I took off my handrails to varnish them. Got them sanded clean pretty well. My question though is whether to varnish the bottom of the handrails that touch the deck. I noticed that they did not have any varnish on them (is it to let the wood breath? Also, when putting them back on, do you recommend using some caulk and 'how much, just around the screw, or a very thin layer and which kind. Thank you in advance!
