I am currently considering filing a protection order against my father. This obviously means he will have his firearm confiscated. The issue is, he lost his firearm a few years ago and failed to report it to SAPS. He will of course be punished for this, though I am curious what the usual procedure is, whether it is usually a criminal charge, jail time, a fine etc.

I am considering getting a protection order against my father as he is emotionally and physically abusive. I am 19 and have not finished with my studies yet, and we are trying to sell the house so me and my mother can move out to an apartment (Divorce agreement states that he is responsible for my residence costs after the house sold, as well as my other basic needs, until I am self-sufficient), so moving out right now is not ideal.

If I file for a protection order, could I get one that limits contact but allows us to stay in the same household?
