Litany of issues with M1 MBP (14in, 2021.) Battery, logic board, both, neither?
Hi all,
I have a 2021 M1 MBP 14" (Z15G0022JLL/A), 1,800 cycles, 72% battery health, and have been dealing with charging, port, and Touch ID issues for about a year.
Charging: MagSafe lights up orange but isn't recognized as a power source — battery drains normally. USB-C ports show no wattage draw and won't charge either. The only workaround: plug in MagSafe, then briefly plug a USB-C into the right-side port (near SD card) — the charge sound plays and the icon switches to "plugged in," but it's not actually powering the laptop. I have to unplug the USB-C within ~0.2 seconds, at which point it switches to the charging icon and charges normally (~60W). If I'm too slow, it stays on the "plugged in" icon without actually charging. Usually takes 2–3 attempts. Left-side USB-C ports don't work for this at all.
Ports: Right USB-C port doesn't read data or support dongles.
Touch ID: Not working. Can't read/register/or anything. Pressing the button still works for hibernating and waking up.
Physical Damage: I dropped it a couple years ago (well before these issues) and have a small darker spot on the screen with a corresponding small dent on the back from the impact. Don't think related but included just in case.
I've not seen anyone else with these issues, and am wondering if it's just a dying battery or if it would be a logic board?
