Hello all, I'm not sure who else to turn to so I figured you might be able to help me out
I just met with my new Psychiatrist and she wants me to get off Venlaflaxin and onto Wellbutrin. I've had Depression since i've been a teenager (im 24 now) and recently I also got an ADHD diagnosis.
I have been taking Venlafaxine (112.5) for about two years ever since Fluoxetine wasn't available in my country anymore and I do think I manage quite well with it.
The things is, im terrified of playing around with my meds because I know how horrible missing one dose of Venlaflaxin feels. She said it's
probably because I am very sensitive to Serotonin but I found out that Wellbutrin doesn't even work with Serotonin?
I don't know what to do now, I also take Lisdexamphetamine when needed (just for exams and exam prep mostly) and she said that Wellbutrin would tackle both the depression and the ADHD so I could stop with the stimulant as well.
I would taper it (Venlaflaxin) off over about 3 weeks and increase the Wellbutrin dose simultaneously but I heard / expect that it will be an absolute Shitshow to come off them. I explicitly mentioned to my last psychiatrist that I dont want anything that will make me dependent but I guess she overheard that :)
Do any of you have any experience with that exact switch? I'm not looking forward to screwing around in my brain again but from what I read Wellbutrin can work really well with my exact Symptoms as I struggle a lot with executive disfunction etc. I guess I am just scared to fall into the black pit of despair again?
The new therapist seems super nice (and she has a cute dog?? yes!!) but I do think its kinda weird she immediately wants to switch medication after my first appointment? She did seem well informed though.
Any help or advice would be appreciated as I always seem to get overwhelmed and scared with this topic and no one in my real life social circles could really help me out here.
TLDR: My new therapist wants to take me off Venlaflaxin (112.5) and switch to Wellbutrin / Bupropion? Any Tips or Opinions?
