I love food service while volume bartending❗️
Hi everybody! I worked a shift recently that was great because it was so busy in our restaurant, I had to switch to volume bartending mode (no tabs left open and payment upfront instead of letting customers hang out and finish their drinks before paying).
I particularly enjoy this because when people order food, I can decide the kind of service I give based on the tip, because payment is upfront. To be very clear, my job is to stay at the bar and ring orders in and make drinks. We have food runners in the restaurant.
I had customers come to me for drinks several times throughout the evening and not tip every time. Eventually, they wanted to order food. I just ring in the orders and make the drinks, and anything else I want to do is because I’m feeling nice.
If you come to me several times and don’t tip for several drink orders in a row, then order food and don’t tip on that order as well, your food is not my first priority. I care if the food is perfect for my customers that consistently come back and tip. I do not care about food going to people who have not tipped me all night.
I told the food runner I would bring that order of food out to the customer myself and not to worry about it. I tip the food runner, so if a customer doesn’t tip me on an order, I’ll just bring the order myself when I have the time (which could be a long while, especially in a high-volume bartending environment). Of course, I waited until the kitchen was closed to bring the order over to the customer. Any complaints? Sorry! The kitchen is closed now.
TL;DR: I’m glad I got to serve the 0% tippers some soggy nachos. You don’t like your food? Sorry, our kitchen is closed now as well, you ordered within the last hour of service at this restaurant.
