Good morning
Is this a contractual change I should have been consulted on?
I moved from department 1 to department 2 as part of a restructure- no changes were made to my role, just a simple switch across. We still physically work out of departments 1 office (office A) below, and I have done since 2021. With the department change I got to office B now once a month to be fire warden.
Today I have been informed by management that as of right now, department 1 have no room in office A, and we need to move to office B permanently. We can go there if there is an operational need like handing out keys, but I’m then expected to drive back to office B (15 miles away).
Is this a contractual change I should have been consulted on? And is it fair for me to ask to have office A removed from my contracted place of work? I’m happy to move no issues, I want to clear on this for my direct reports.
Contract states:
Your normal place of work is at the offices B, A or C or such other place within the Council's district which the Council may reasonably require for the proper performance and exercise of your duties.
If your workstyle is flexible (between home and office) or mobile across the district, yoll may also work from home where this is agreed in advance with your line manage through a Flexible Working Request or informally if on an ad hoc basis. Where homeworking is agreed we reserve the right, at any time, to require you to work from your normal place of work in future.
You agree to travel on the Council's business as may be required for the proper performance of your duties under the appointment. There is no right to reclaim travel time or travel expenses from your home location to your normal place of work. You further note and agree that your normal place of work may be changed with appropriate consultation between B and A/C on a flexible basis depending on the needs of the Council and that you cannot make a claim in respect of travel costs relating to travel to any location to, or from, your home.
