How to listen to Israeli music while abiding by the tenet of BDS? Is it possible?
I spent nearly a year of religious study in Jerusalem back in 2021, which is when I became a big fan of Israeli/Misrahi music. I LOVED the Revivo Project, for example, and would listen to all their recordings on Spotify (which Spotify I know is also problematic, if I remember correctly, so I'm happily open to less exploitative alternatives.
Everything since the genocide began has opened my eyes to just how truly irredeemable a state built off Zionism and bloodlust and genocide can be, and it has made me feel repulsed to pretty much every aspect of Israel and Israeli culture. I'm too ashamed to let most people know that I speak Hebrew.
That all being said, I haven't listened to the Revivo Project in at least two years now, and I don't know where they stand on the genocide (I don't think I want to know) but their songs are so catchy, and they continue to stick around in my head even two years later.
So, is there an ethical way to fill this craving while still abiding by the tenets of BDS?
