Update and thank you: I submitted my NYC packet yesterday

Ciao everyone,

I wanted to post a quick update, and also say thank you to this community.

Over the past few months, I posted here a couple of times looking for a realistic read on my line and whether it still made sense to move forward. A lot of people took the time to respond thoughtfully and candidly, and I really appreciated it.

Yesterday, I went ahead and submitted my packet to the New York consulate by certified mail.

For anyone who did not see my earlier posts, my line is:

  • grandmother born in Bonefro, Molise in 1922, naturalized in 1951
  • father born in New Rochelle, NY in 1948
  • me born in Connecticut in 1974

I am under no illusion that this is a strong case under the current framework. But after all the time spent gathering documents, translating records, and getting one of these hard-to-get NYC appointments, I decided I would rather get the application into the queue than walk away completely.

My thinking, for better or worse, is that if this takes a year or two to be reviewed, maybe something changes in the courts during that time. I know that is a long shot, and I do not have a lot of confidence. But it felt better to try than not try.

So now I wait, and keep my fingers crossed.

In any case, thank you again to everyone here who answered questions, shared experiences, and helped me think more clearly about all of this. Even when the answers were not what I wanted to hear, they were useful.

I’ll update the group if I hear anything.

Grazie.
