This post is probably more applicable to a social skills sub, but the back end of it relates more to WL.

I’ve been going to my gym for under a year now, and lately the dynamic has changed. I’ve found myself picking and choosing which sessions to attend because of certain people, and often leaving feeling unhappy.

The demographic of this gym is about 95% people aged 30–45. They have families and live very different lives to me (24, M), so we often can’t find much common ground. I often feel like the odd one out - not for lack of trying.

This also affects the programming. The head coach is a Masters athlete and programs everything towards Masters events. Before one session, he spoke at length about what everyone needs to do to qualify for the Masters Championships, and I remember thinking, “I’ve never even entered a competition.”

There’s another gym about 10 minutes away that seems to be made up mostly of people my age. They’ve sent athletes to Europeans and focus exclusively on Olympic lifting. I keep going back and forth on whether or not to join.

What would you do if you were me? Stay put? Take a break? Move gyms?

Thanks
