Hi, I’m rescuing a farm dog from an ill fate (they ‘had no use’ for her anymore😭), picking her up today. She’s 5, has had x2 litters of puppies, KC registered and her great grandad won crufts. However, she’s always lived on a farm, in a kennel and never been house trained. I know they’re a very intelligent breed so hoping she can pick things up quickly but any advice would be greatly appreciated!
For context, I’ve had a working cocker in the past, who I had from a puppy so I’m hoping that experience will help. I know from that how much effort she’s going to need!
Also, she will be absolutely filthy from being in the kennel. I could really do with bathing her as soon as I get her but is this gonna stress her out too much and affect the bonding process?
TIA x
Edit: I forgot to mention she’s always been well looked after by the farmers wife. Never neglected, just kept outdoors. The wife always walks her etc and says she goes off lead with good recall so hoping that helps!
UPDATE:
She’s home and she is the sweetest gentlest girl ever. She’s so so loving and calm. I did end up bathing her because she seemed so comfortable with me and didn’t mind the water too much and now she smells amazing.
She’s settled right in. Shes done a poo and two wees outside already! She was very scared at first but now she’s playing a bit with her ball and teddy. She loves her bed.
