So yeah, just like the title says, I finally figured out why I couldn’t hear my friend in game voice chat for months.

We’re both on PS5, and one day out of nowhere I just couldn’t hear him anymore. The weird part was that he could still hear me, and I could hear everyone else in the lobby just fine. He could also hear everyone, including me.

So basically:

- I could hear everyone except him

- He could hear everyone, including me

I tried everything: restarting the game, reinstalling it, checking every possible audio setting, leaving and rejoining, etc. I also spent a lot of time going through forums trying to find a fix, but nothing worked.

At some point, something felt off. We realized I couldn’t even see his messages in the in-game chat, which didn’t make sense.

So I tried removing him from my PlayStation friends list and adding him again through EA only. That’s when things got even weirder: I couldn’t find him at all on EA, and I wasn’t receiving his friend requests, even though he was sending them.

That’s when it clicked.

I went to the EA website and checked my blocked list… (https://myaccount.ea.com/am/ui/security-privacy/blocked-users) and yeah, he was there. I must have accidentally blocked him at some point without realizing it.

Unblocked him, and everything went back to normal instantly.

If you’re having the same issue where one specific friend can’t be heard in VC, and you also can’t see their messages or receive their requests, check your EA block list. It might save you months of confusion.

Also, I genuinely have no idea how I even blocked him in the first place… if anyone knows how that can happen, I’m curious.
