Looking for suggestions…

(Pic just as a starting point)
So I’m looking picking up an e-bike. I’m familiar with bikes in general and have a decent mountain bike for a couple years I even commuted to a second job by bike for exercise and to save on gas. Currently I’ve got two primary specific use cases:

  1. For a daily commute of about 5mi each way on roads and paved/gravel trails.
  2. Periodic longer range (50-100mi) rides to get back to my car after backpacking and paddle trips.

Both kinds of trips would be on mostly paved and gravel roads but for that second type of trip I’m thinking I’ll need something with a lot more range AND preferably something that works well as a traditional bike to maximize range and make pedal only use reasonable.

Where it gets a bit more challenging is that I go almost everywhere with my dog (long story but I’d rather scrap the plan entirely than try to leave the dog out of it) who’s is pretty athletic but will still need to spend at least some of the trips in a trailer (to keep it clear of traffic if nothing else). Pup is about 50lbs and I imagine a trailer will do a number on range but again I can work on that and the pup is generally happy to run for miles without issue (and goes with me regularly on my regular bike rides).

Anyhow I’m looking for suggestions on specific brands and models as well as any thoughts, experiences, or other info folks might be willing to share. So far it’s seeming like mid motor bikes will be ideal so I can use gearing to maximize range and I’ve been looking for options in the more “commuter/hybrid range (so not super huge tires). I’ve been considering options from Aventon, Velotric, Specialized, and a few others but I’m not terribly set on anything.

Material sourcing/naming…

Anyone have a good source for the kind of very thin but fairly breathable but durable and smooth faced elastic webbing commonly seen on a lot of modern headlamp bands?

It’s got smoother surface weave and is a bit thinner than most elastic I seem to find on most sites even selling outdoor materials/fabrics. Even just a proper name for that specific kind of tape/strap/webbing/band would be a big help. It also seems to rot out and degrade a good bit slower than common elastic tape.

Purpose is to hopefully make some replacement headlamp bands but depending on price it could be good for a lot of other projects too. Currently the closest I’ve found is buying clearance underwear and ripping the elastic waist bands! 😅

I’ve got a series of GW tools (mower, string trimmer, chainsaw, etc) and a half dozen or so 40V batteries (4-6 AH). As of last night the 6AH battery seems to be shutting itself off automatically after ~3-5s of operation despite being fully charged.

Tested other fully charged batteries with the mower and all work fine. Tested the 6AH battery in other tools and they also run for a few seconds and then seem to die (like when a battery fully depletes while mowing; no warning sound or other error indicator that I’ve seen). My conclusion is that battery seems to be indicating some fault condition and shutting itself down.

Battery was off the charger for 3-6hrs before use and other batteries stored in the same place aren’t affected so I don’t think it’s a temp issue.

Any suggestions? Searching online and here doesn’t seem to be finding the same issue. Getting ready to call GW support.
