Any intel from this group on best route? Is it possible to ride w/o risky sections of Hwy 1? Do the ride going north or south?

Thinking of changing Shimano CN-6701-10 Chain;  0.5 stretch at 1250 miles. does that sound like reasonable mileage? Road bike. I keep the chain clean and lubricated and generally ride in dry weather on pavement. TIA
