Which Ortlieb saddle bag 11l vs 16l for what I am planning?

Hi!

I want to get a bike packing setup. I ride road bikes but because I will be cycling in the US I want to keep the option open to carry camping gear as well.
If this was purely for “credit card” backpacking in Europe I would have taken 11l but I am wondering if a 3l frame bag + 16l saddle bag would work for a bikepacking setup with camping. The tent would probably have to be attached to the handle bar unless I end op doing some ultra light bivy setup.

Question:
Would an 11l bag be enough for: an inflatable mattress and a sleeping bag and some extra layers if the only other bags I would ideally be able to take are the 3l frame + tent separately?

Road bike trip trough the US - help me validate some assumptions with your experience

Hi!

I am thinking about doing a longer cycling trip in the US. I have a roadbike, so looking to mostly ride roads/paved surfaces.

I am currently trying to understand the feasibility of such a trip without camping gear: is that a bad idea? I am mostly worried about lack of options for accommodation in more remote areas.

I have 3-4 weeks time. Where should I got? I have been thinking about either flying somewhere and then doing everything with the bike, or potentially renting a car and then going to use different hotels/motels/airbnbs as a "hub" to start from and do regional tours.

In terms of regions it seems like the temperature is going to make the northern half of the US to obvious choice for this trip.

I am a bit worried about how self sufficient I might have to be (due to lack of food/water/accommodation) but maybe there are people who can share advice as well as trips they did!

Thank you!

Hi!

I am going to get a new bike with the following gearset:

  • Groupset: SRAM Force AXS
  • Crankset: SRAM Force w/ Spindle Powermeter 48-35
  • Cassette: 10-33

I would like to buy a pre-waxed chain so I can ride the bike right away. I am struggling to find the right one (needs to ship to Germany).

How do I know how many elements I need?

I think I need the flattop one, so does this mean the 3rd is the only one that would work?

New to chains, so thanks for your help!

Here are a couple I found:
