I was bored of shounen manga since 2012, but I'm love with Dandadan

I just wanted to write about Dandadan because it's been ages since something makes me attached like this. I want to talk about aliens!

I read manga since 2005 more or less and I followed weekly or monthly some manga that are complete today. I followed Naruto for more than 5 years and I was there following FMA monthly until its end. I'm a dinossaur dweeb.

(Btw, I honestly think that Naruto's mangaka, Masashi Kishimoto, can draw some art that are worthy an exhibition. Just look at some "special" pages in the manga or the artbooks.)

But I lost my patience with Naruto and I didn't even finished it. But there were more manga to read. Aaand I got tired of shounen, they were too slow, they became too cliche and repetitive, it was always more of the same: always the smirking edgy main characters; villains that just wanted to destroy the world (with a smirky smile); the story take itself too seriously and there was no space for slice of life or contemplation; the comedy was always that "otaku" comedy with characters making O_O eyes while shouting and punching the MC; the anime couldn't make "fun" (which is subjective) animation. I won't name the mangas or animes because each person has it's own tastes and that's ok, I also like things that everyone hates (I love Starfield lol).

Then I stopped reading shounen and started reading only completed manga and books, and they fill what I'm look for, but I don't think that I'm at a snub, I just read for fun and I don't even like "classics". I'm also always peeping at manga and shounen, but after one chapter or episode, I think that they are not for my taste (for the reasons on the paragraph above).

Then I found Dandadan by chance on the cable tv on a random night. I had no idea what Dandadan was when I started watching it, I had never read the summary on My Anime List, literally zero spoilers, not even memes, nada. Later I found that was the 11th episode of the 2nd season, when they start the fight against the kaiju. On retrospect, those two episodes can work separately from the previous episodes, there is no context, there is no explanation about what happened during the anime. These two episodes have good humour, have animation that added to the comedy. It just felt special and fun.

Then I went to watch since the begining, and the animation, my god the animation is too good... It's what makes this anime so special. It has that slaptstick animation from old cartoons, instead of the stiff animation that we found even today in animation. Dandadan animation is everywhere, as it should be on, behold, an animation. It's like modern anime save the best animation for fight scenes, but even this gets repetitive to me, and you can notice patterns in fight scenes, and the rest of the anime is just characters looking at each other moving their mouths.

I also finished reading the manga and, while I like when Dandadan was more related to personal stories before the >!World Government!< saga, I don't think it's going to a wrong direction. Some things could be shorter, some fights should last only one chapter (such as the >!airplane with sharks, the house ninjas against Seiko and the last Vamola fight!<. And eveything about the two girls who lost their powers at the shopping mall could very well happen off-screen (those two girls are boring and useless D:). I think it works better with the main cast from the 2 anime seasons and added characters as antagonists or side characters. I don't want Dandadan to be shorter, I just want more.

I also like the romance. It's nice how they show that Momo and Okarun really crave for and like each other company, this is so rare in romance and even more in anime and manga. Most of the time in mangas, girls act as if they just don't have opinions or can't like anyone not even as friends. Also, the way the series represents women is so welcome. Usually in shonen they are shown as cute or something, but in Dandadan they take part in everything.

Btw, if you like the animation and comedy in Dandadan I highly recommend Little Witch Academia, and if you know something similar let me know.

AND WHEN THEY PLAYED WILLIAM TELL ENDING I WAS LAUGHING SO HARD
