(Long rant but i will keep it short)
First of all, i am not trying to point at anyone exactly, you can dislike or like the way g3 has handled the SB so far(even if it’s still too early to judge).
What i want to understand is, how people come to the conclusion that g3 is somehow using the SB to justify slavery or its a fetish of sorts? The fact that sunny’s acceptance destroys the themes of the story? The fact that it completely destroys his character?
That is something that boggles my mind.
First of all, we have spent close to 1500~ chapters from across all arcs saying that slavery is bad, but slavery exists in all forms and shapes.
Let me give you one example that employed people would understand (this isn’t a jab on anyone I promise).
Say, you are a college student that accumulated a lot of debt, working your ass off to make sure you can study, while also trying to study. Every day you spent loathing parts of your life under immense pressure to earn enough money so you can continue to live. You work under corporations that would throw you away under a drop of a needle, yet you work out of desperation trying to live paycheck to paycheck. But what choice do you have? Quite? You dont have enough saved up to pay for food, let alone for your college expenses. Then what? You graduate and still have to look for work under people that work you to the bone with no understanding of your life and conditions. And you are still under debt for a degree (that most likely) that cant even help you!!!
This isn’t fiction, this is reality that hundred of millions (if not billions) of people live through.
Now tell me, after living a life like that, full of hate and loathing for people you cant even picture in your head for so many years, do still have the energy to hate at this point?
No, you accept it.
You dont feel that hate for the world because that just how the world is, no matter what era you live in. Modern slavery is a thriving thing in this world and humanity has accepted a loooooong time ago. This isn’t new.
So, where does all of this fit into shadow slave? This is the thing that i hate about people saying its bad writing, when what g3 portraying that all of us (and especially G3 himself iykyk) are bound to something that is outside of our control. And you dont have to hate it, just accept it.
This isn’t a grandiose story about overcoming the system, it’s about accepting and living through it. Throughout history, many people tried to change it to no avail, and no matter how we see freedom, reality is different. Sunny realized that after 9 whole years of hating and loathing that system that took away his freedom only to realize that no matter what, reality colors a bleak image into your ideals.
We have seen sunny slowly fit into that mindset for a very very long time now. How did people not see that coming?
Anyway, you are free to have opinions on sunny, but saying that g3 justifying slavery or something is really dumb when he has shown us the opposite.
