I drove out to my best spot yesterday but growth is later than the past few years. I walked away with about a pound of fiddleheads but most of the ferns are just starting to poke through the rhizome (see photo).

And yes, I am 100% sure these are ostrich ferns! I have been picking this spot for years, I'm just never early. Second pic for proof.

I'm trying to determine when these might be ready for picking. My spot is 1.5 hours away roundtrip so hoping to make just one more trip. Like do I have a week? Or should I be out there on Saturday? It will be partly cloudy and mid-50s for the next couple days.
