Breaking bad brainstorming and planning habits

I think i really need help when it comes to this. I am aware I have this habit, I am also aware it's a horrible habit to have and could honestly cost me not only time but also be detrimental to every aspect of writing.

I do not plan, I do not outline, I do not even have a semblance of events that may happen in a given chapter. I get an idea, run with it, and just write. Honestly it dates all the way back to elementary school for me because I thought outlines and brainstorming were useless since I was making As in creative writing and reports.

I've been working on two books between school and full time jobs. A total of ten years. I still make As academically and I've been entering writing battles where I'm doing well. I just feel like this is a habit that could be incredibly destructive and I do not know how to break it.

The reason I am posting this here is because a lot of friends who also write also echo this sentiment. I don't believe I'm the only one this happens to, far from it. I would love to hear if anyone has the same issue or suggestions for breaking the issue!
