My 12 year old cat is quite vocal, and I've always thought of it as just a quirky grumpy old man thing he does, but I'm starting to wonder if him announcing when he's using the litter tray is concerning.
He does it for both peeing and pooping and it is very loud, a similar volume to his "you haven't fed me in foreverrrr" yowls. There have been times I've gone to check on him or see if he's seen another cat outside or something but nope just having a wee.
He had a UTI once 5 years ago acted completely differently to this so I didn't consider it, but I'm wondering if he's yelling because it's painful?
He eats wet food with water mixed in because I find he gets constipated really easily without the extra fluids, and a small amount of dry food for extra fibre that is also hairball control food.
As a result, he pees in large volumes for a cat maybe 2-3 times a day (think 3-4 tennis balls of clumping litter per day) and so wonder if it's possible I'm giving him too much to drink. His poops are usually fine unless I stop giving him water and then he gets constipated.
He has no issues using the litter tray at all, has never gone outside it. He otherwise seems super happy and content, fully himself and showing no signs of discomfort.
Is this something you would ask a vet to examine him for? He had a traumatic vet experience (he had an injury to a claw and the vet declawed that bean with no pain relief) so I don't want to put him through the stress of going unecessarily.
