How do I know what is my heart // what is God?

Hi all! I just stumbled across Jeremiah 17:9 which states “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?”

How do you make sense of this? How do I know what is “my heart” and what is God? How do I know what is reason (for example the issue of gay marriage, and how our church has accepted those, which I am in full agreement with) and what is me perusing my own will over Gods?

thanks :)

Hi guys! I know this has been asked before but I would like to ask it in a specific context.

I recently converted (within the last 2 weeks) and am currently in a 3+ year monogamous and cohabited relationship with my wonderful girlfriend. we have regularly been having sex throughout this time and it’s sometime that makes me feel closer to her in a variety of ways. I plan on proposing to her within the next 1-2 years. I am torn on if I should ask her for us to stop having sex until we are wed. Obviously this isn’t something i WANT to do but I am wrestling with it.

I spoke with my pastor and he said that it was not nessasarily but I understand it’s a nuisances issue, with multiple opinions and I would love to hear some arguments for and against.

Thank you!
