Hi! I (32F) have been take LTS classes for the last 4 weeks (and I have signed up for classes through July). I’ve wanted to learn to ice skate for literal years and have finally found myself lucky enough to be 15 minutes from a rink!
I’d always thought I’d enjoy figure skating- I’m a classically trained ballerina after all.
This last November, I went to my first, second, and fifteenth hockey games. I’m OBSESSED!
Here’s my dilemma: the rentals are BRUTAL.
Any use of my toe pick is genuinely painful.
Then I went to public skate and— why did it seem like anyone in hockey skates was having so much more fun than anyone else there?? UGH!! My teacher is super supportive and let me try some old donated Bauer hockey skates for my class last week and it was amazing but— I’m afraid of missing out on learning basic skills. We worked on 3 turns last week and I couldn’t do it in the Bauers…
I do think I’d enjoy joining the thriving local amateur hockey league but I don’t want to miss out on learning the basics of skating. I feel like most of what I learn in figure skates will be able to transition to hockey skates (with some adjustments, of course) but there are some things I won’t be able to learn at all in hockey skates…
**UPDATE**
Wow. You are all so nice!! Everyone's input/feedback/commentary has been very helpful and I feel much more solid in my decision to move on with hockey skates!! I've been dancing my whole life and I think I'd rather join a team and focus on having fun rather than my artistry or whatever...I'll leave that for when I'm on firm, ice-less ground.
