I’d really appreciate some advice from the Bordeaux connoisseurs.
My dad is turning 80 soon, and I want to open something genuinely special with him. He’s a serious Bordeaux enthusiast, and I’d like this this to be a rather remarkable wine.
Interestingly, I don’t think he’s ever had some of the big Right Bank names like Château Cheval Blanc, Pétrus, or even Château Angélus (I personally had a 2011 on my honeymoon and loved it, best I’ve had) so part of me is tempted to go in that direction for the experience.
That said, I’ve found some bottles locally (good provenance, reputable merchants), and I’m trying to sense-check both vintage choice and drinkability right now:
Options I’m considering: • Château Mouton Rothschild 2009 / 2010 / 2011 • Château Haut-Brion 2009 / 2010 • Château Cheval Blanc 2009 / 2010 / 2011 • Château Angélus 2015 / 2017 • Château Lafleur 2007 / 2011
What do you think? Too soon to drink some of these? Other suggestions very welcome! Thanks.
